SD’s 2026 election pledge · inquiry proposal. SD promises to revoke permanent residence permits. The inquiry concerns certain groups. Temporary permits could replace permanent ones. Revocation does not automatically mean deportation.

Permanent residence permits

Sverigedemokraterna promises to revoke permanent permits. The inquiry proposes changes for certain groups, with the possibility of temporary permits.

Revocation of citizenship

Sverigedemokraterna wants to go further. The constitutional proposal concerns dual citizens and specified grounds. The first decision alone is not enough to amend the constitution.

Deportation following an offence

The rules have already been tightened. Courts assess deportation individually; the main rule covers penalties more severe than fines.

Conduct and residence permits

Good conduct carries greater weight. Large debts are one example in the reform, not automatic grounds for deportation.

Checks and detention

The government's mandate includes providing 1,000 immigration detention places by 2029. Places measure capacity, not the projected number of deportees.

Voluntary return migration

The grant was increased in 2026 for certain groups. Voluntary return migration is a different mechanism from a deportation order.

Switching from asylum to a work permit

The option to switch from asylum to a work permit was abolished in 2025. In September 2026, the government is considering allowing those affected to apply for a new work permit from within Sweden.

The Moderates and the Christian Democrats

Moderaterna and Kristdemokraterna back the government’s reporting duty for six agencies and the expansion of detention facilities. Sverigedemokraterna’s demand to include schools, healthcare and social services is not a jointly adopted decision. Kristdemokraterna supports the relaxation for some young people.

Teenage deportations and the retreat

The Swedish Migration Agency paused some rejection decisions in March 2026, not all earlier deportations. On 13 August, Parliament approved a limited opportunity for some people under 21 to extend their residence permits, from 1 October. Iliya’s case is presented as reported in March; his current case status has not been verified.

Reporting undocumented people: today’s law and Sverigedemokraterna’s next step

Since 13 July 2026, six agencies must give information to the police when there is reason to believe someone lacks the right to stay. Schools, healthcare and social services are not covered by that duty. In Parliament, Sverigedemokraterna wants to include them too. This site uses “denunciation” as an evaluative description.
